The weather here in LA has been gloomy. For the last two weeks it’s been overcast with dark skies and low foggy clouds. I wish it would just rain for days, we need it so badly. Everything is brown and water restrictions are high right now. Next month is ‘June Gloom’, or maybe it’s come early this year. I don’t know how the farmers are keeping up with the drought, but somehow they deliver fresh, vibrant, incredibly tasty produce every week.
My favorite little citrus snacks are out of season now. I came home with a dozen of those sweet, juicy little clementines and we ate them all that day. With every season comes change and I’ll gladly accept the tender spring asparagus. The asparagus don’t need a lot of extra ingredients. I sauté them in a little olive oil, salt & pepper, italian seasoning, and lemon zest. They make a good side dish to fish or any pasta dish with pesto.
The bundle of carrots had a cute surprise for me, a close friendship was made (see picture below) and made me think of the people who are the closest in my life (you know who are).
In the garden and farm world, this is what best friends look like.
1. Cabbage | 2. Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes | 3. Green Onions
4. Carrots | 5. Garlic | 6. Avocados
7. Chamomile Flowers | 8. Persian Cucumbers | 9. Yellow Zucchini
